About Dr Shams Kamal Anjum

Dr Shams Kamal Anjum is a well-known figure in the field of academics. He has left his indelible mark as a poet and writer of Arabic and Urdu languages. Dr Anjum graduated from the prestigious Islamic University of Madinah Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia and secured his Masters and Doctoral Degrees from the University of Delhi. He worked in the Department of Arabic, University of Delhi for a year in 2005. Later in 2006, he was appointed as Lecturer, Reader, and Associate Professor at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.
The teaching and research experience of Dr Shams Kamal Anjum spans over more than a decade. He serves the Department of Arabic, BGSBU, Rajouri as Head of the Department since December 2009. He has authored more than two dozen books in both Arabic and Urdu that have been received warmly in the literary circles. Some of the outstanding works of Dr Anjum can be recalled as Al- Tabaqat al- Kubra li Ibn-e-Sa’d, Al- Haneen Fi Shir al Mahjar, Adbullah ibin al-Motaz wa Johoodohu fi Ilmi al-Balaghah, Jadeed Arabi Adab, Jadeed Arabi Shayri, Arabi Tanqeed ka Safar, Arabi Nasr ka Fanni Irtiqa, Balaghat E Qur’an, Naqoosh-E-Jawidan, Kyllliyat Anjum, Maqalat E Hammad Anjum, Maktoobat E Hammad Anjum, Ghubar E Hayat, Hammad Anjum Shakhs Aur Shair, Arabi Zabano Adab Ke Meymar Hindustan Mein, Tareekh E Adab E Arabi, Tareekh E Adabiyyat E Arab and two collections of poetry namely; Balaghalula Ei-Kamalihi, (Natia Majmooa) Main Shair to Nahiin Magar (Shazlon ka Majmooa) etc. Dr Anjum has more than a hundred research papers, articles and book reviews to his credit that feature in multiple national and international journals and magazines. He has participated and presented his research papers in more than two dozen conferences and seminars while chairing multiple sessions and presenting Keynote addresses as well. Dr Anjum has been invited as a guest speaker in various Universities and Colleges within the country. He has supervised eight M.Phil and three PhD research scholars to completion. Currently, he is supervising scholars at PhD Recently.
Dr Shams Kamal Anjum was conferred as the first “Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award” (2017) by Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in 2017. The award is the first of its type conferred upon a person in the University. He is also a recipient of the Syed Suleiman Nadwi Award for Translation conferred to him by Urdu Development Organization New Delhi in 2018. The monthly Shair Bombay and Majalla Tahreek E Adab Banaras have published special issues on the contribution of Dr Shams Kamal Anjum in 2012 and 2017 respectively.
Besides holding the responsibility of heading the Department of Arabic for over a decade, Dr Anjum also acting as the founding head of the Departments of Urdu and Islamic Studies at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University and works as Provost Sir Syed Hall at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. To accelerate the growth of the Department in academics, several seminars both local and national were held from time to time under his leadership and supervision. Apart from this nearly two dozen extension lectures, four poetic symposia (Mushaira) and quizzes have been held so far. The Department also takes lead in organizing the exhibition events from time to time under his leadership. The Department in particular and the University as a whole foresee much more excellence under his leadership in the times to come.
